Udai Banerji, MD, PhD
Professor Udai Banerji is Professor of Molecular Cancer Pharmacology at The Institute of Cancer Research and holds a senior leadership role in the Drug Development Unit at the ICR and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also an Honorary Consultant.
He is an internationally recognized leader in early-phase clinical trials and translational oncology, with a focus on the development of targeted therapies, pharmacodynamic biomarkers and strategies to address drug resistance. He leads the Clinical Pharmacodynamics Biomarker Group and the Clinical Pharmacology Adaptive Therapy Group, integrating clinical pharmacology with translational science to guide first-in-human development and critical decisions about which treatments and combinations should advance.
Professor Banerji has served as principal investigator and co-investigator on more than 200 early-phase clinical studies, including more than 35 first-in-human studies as principal investigator.
In 2026, he was appointed an NIHR Senior Investigator in recognition of his leadership and contribution to patient-centered cancer research. He previously received an NIHR Research Professorship and was part of teams honored with the AACR Team Science Award and the Cancer Research UK Translational Research Award.
