CV6 Therapeutics is a clinical-stage Genomic Uracil Stress Response (GUSR) platform company developing specific, first-in-class medicines for cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland, since relocating from Los Angeles in 2015, CV6 brings together scientists, clinicians and drug developers with deep experience in nucleotide metabolism and oncology.
Our lead oncology medicine, CV6-168, is a selective, first-in-class dUTPase inhibitor in Phase 1a clinical development and the first drug from the Johnston Cancer Research Centre to reach patients.
CV6-1271, our lead program in inflammatory disease, is in preclinical development.
What makes CV6 different?
Many new cancer drugs are added alongside a standard therapy. CV6 takes a different route: our medicines exploit a vulnerability that cornerstone treatments already create.
Thymidylate synthase inhibitors such as 5-FU starve cancer cells of thymine. CV6-168 blocks dUTPase, the enzyme that keeps uracil out of DNA, so uracil takes thymine’s place. The result is Genomic Uracil Stress, which drives lethal damage in the cancer cell. The same biology underpins CV6-1271 alongside methotrexate in inflammatory disease.
