Robert D. Ladner, PhD

Dr. Robert Ladner is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CV6 Therapeutics. A translational cancer scientist with more than three decades of experience, he has devoted his career to understanding how nucleotide metabolism and DNA repair influence the response to cancer treatment.

His early research characterised human dUTPase and its nuclear and mitochondrial isoforms. He subsequently investigated the role of uracil incorporation into DNA during treatment with thymidylate synthase inhibitors and reported an association between dUTPase expression and response to 5-fluorouracil in colorectal cancer.

Dr. Ladner founded CV6 to translate these insights into new medicines. The company is developing selective, first-in-class dUTPase inhibitors for cancer and pursuing related approaches in inflammatory disease. Its work draws on biology that Dr. Ladner helped pioneer and that CV6 describes as the Genomic Uracil Stress Response.

Before joining Queen’s University Belfast, Dr. Ladner was on the faculty of the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is a Reader at Queen’s, based at the Johnston Cancer Research Centre.
