CV6-168 Named Therapeutics Innovation of the Year in 2026 BioTech Breakthrough Awards

5th November 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BELFAST, Northern Ireland, 6 November 2026 — CV6-168 has been named Therapeutics Innovation of the Year in the 2026 BioTech Breakthrough Awards. The first-in-class investigational cancer medicine is being developed by Belfast-based CV6 Therapeutics.

Selected following a review of thousands of international nominations, CV6-168 is an oral medicine designed to help 5-fluorouracil, commonly known as 5-FU, work better. 5-FU and related medicines are used across the treatment of many major cancers.

CV6-168 is now being evaluated in an ongoing first-in-human Phase 1a clinical trial in combination with infusional 5-FU. Dose escalation is continuing, with no dose-limiting toxicities observed to date. The program has also been cleared to advance into Phase 1b development.

“Recognition of CV6-168 reflects years of work by our team to move this science from Belfast laboratories into patients,” said Dr Robert D. Ladner, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CV6 Therapeutics. “Our goal is to help established cancer treatments work better without adding unnecessarily to the burden experienced by patients.”

CV6 Therapeutics is a clinical-stage Genomic Uracil Stress Response, or GUSR, platform company developing specific, first-in-class medicines for cancer and inflammatory diseases. Its second program, CV6-1271, applies the same underlying biology alongside methotrexate and is in preclinical development for rheumatoid arthritis.

Headquartered in Belfast, CV6 is part of the QUBIS portfolio and has laboratory facilities at the Johnston Cancer Research Centre at Queen’s University Belfast. Its work is supported by scientists and clinical investigators in Belfast, trial sites across the UK, and an international network of directors and advisers.

CV6-168 and CV6-1271 are investigational therapies that have not been approved for use outside clinical studies by the MHRA, FDA or other regulatory authorities.
